JUNE 2010

  • Watson Bennett's "ABOVE THE BAR" team of cyclists was 16 strong in the Ride for Roswell.  Our team thoroughly enjoyed participating in the event and the team is delighted that over 7,000 participants raised $2.6 million.

  • The Corporate Department should be commended for the Gold Sponsorship of the Investor and Entrepreneur High-Tech Form on Thursday, June 24, 2010. This was attended by the Buffalo and Rochester and Toronto Angel investors along with many of the WNY start-up companies. David Colligan moderated the first panel discussion. Our firm funded the Angel investing survey also. The Buffalo News had an article about the firm's study.

  • David Recht has been appointed to the New York State Bar Association's Committee on Attorney Professionalism.
  • WatsonBennett was one of the sponsors of "Entrepalooza", the recently held UB Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Program.  The event was held at the Seneca Niagara Hotel with over 300 attendees.  It featured the "Afterburner" program to stress flawless execution in the business world.
  • Joel B. Schechter was a speaker at an Erie County Bar Association Seminar on Arbitration that was held at the Hyatt Hotel on June 23, 2010.
  • Joel B. Schechter gave an in-house training program on New York law to the Claims Division of Intact Insurance in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada on June 11, 2010.

 

  • Melissa A. Day is honored to have been elected to the Board of Directors of the Insurance Women of Buffalo, the local chapter of the National Association of Insurance Women.  The installation dinner for her and all the new officers was held on June 8, 2010 at Harry’s Harbour Place Grille.

  • For several years we have been a sponsor of the American Red Cross "Mash Bash" and we were once again a sponsor this year. This wonderful event was held on June 4, 2010.
  • Kristin Arcuri spoke at a New York State Bar Association CLE entitled, "Estate Planning After Divorce," on June 2, 2010.

MAY 2010

  • Watson Bennett is a sponsor of the business event of the year... the Entrepalooza, 2010, which was held on May 20, 2010.
  • Jim Bennett chaired and John A. Moscati, Jr. was a presenter at a Not-For-Profit Workshop that was held at the Clarence Public Library, Clarence, New York on Monday, May 10, 2010. The workshop was focused on liabilities and duties of Not-For-Profit directors and officers.  New York Health Care Proxy Update

April 2010

  • Our Construction litigation department settled a construction lien, bond and litigation matter resulting in over $11,000,000 being paid to our client from an out of state general contractor.
  • David Colligan again produced excellent maple syrup at his sugar shack and was kind enough to provide it to many lucky recipients.
  • Watson Bennett's Commercial Real Estate Department provided the legal services related to three medical facilities in the Town of Amherst, New York, and one in the Town of Lancaster, New York.
  • The Watson Bennett Ride For Roswell Team is now being assembled and will be larger than last year. We continue to support this most worthy event. Anyone interested in joining our team is welcome to contact us.
  • John Moscati is Director of the Greater Niagara Frontier Council Boy Scouts of America. We were a sponsor of the 100th Anniversary Gala Dinner recognizing the centennial. John Moscati received the Boy Scout "Silver Beaver" award for meritorious service to Youth. This is the highest honor awarded by a Boy Scout Council.
  • We closed a $30,000,000.00 acquisition of a Tampa, Florida based wholesale distributor of promotional products. This is the third acquisition that we have completed for this client in the last two years.
